Zan. Zendegi. Azadi.
Jin, Jiyan, Azadi.
Woman, Life, Freedom.

The main slogan echoed in the mass revolutionary protests in Iran. Women and other oppressed classes, such as oppressed ethnic minorities, always play an important role in revolutions. After the murder of a 22-year-old Kurdish girl, Mahsa Jina Amini, by Iran’s notorious morality police, for not wearing the hijab properly, women across the country were seen removing their headscarves, often burning them in protest.

The situation in Iran is difficult, many people have lost their lives, and the Iranian authorities have sought the death penalty against many demonstrators.

It is my great pleasure to host a great artist from Iran, Shahrzad Nazarpour. The performance „Hijab offline” is a personal protest against the restrictions, discipline, and expectations of society and family about the role of a woman. That’s why Shahrzad Nazarpour dances with a body part she could never dance with: she dances only with her hair.

Shahrzad Nazarpour grew up and studied theatre and art in Iran. Since 2020 she has been studying Transmedia Art at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna. Her solo performance Hijab offline was part of the first edition of Skin – performance festival for young adults at Dschungel Wien. She got the “in the field” scholarship of Wiener festwochen and currently works as a member of “Parasol”, dance -performance company for young artist in TQW. She’s a member of Side Effect Theater Company since 2020
